The BBC is to air a documentary about the Catholic clerical abuse scandals next month as part of a season of factual programmes to coincide with the first papal visit to the UK for 28 years.

Australia’s ambassador to the Holy See Tim is in Penola to inspect the town’s preparations ahead of the October 17 canonisation of Mary MacKillop.

Fifteen Anglican bishops have acknowledged that many Anglicans will convert to Roman Catholicism because of current proposals to ordain women as bishops. Granting that the Anglo-Catholic tradition will not have room to grow under the proposals, they nonetheless urged ‘traditionalist’ priests and deacons to continue their opposition.

Pope Benedict XVI has appointed American Redemptorist priest Father Joseph William Tobin as secretary of theĀ Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, which oversees religious orders globally.
