Breaking news on Papal visit in Birmingham

GREATER detail is emerging about the Papal visit to Birmingham and the beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman.

The change of venue from Coventry Airport to Cofton Park for the beatification on Sunday September 19 has had an major impact on the number of people who will be able to attend but organisers of the Papal visit hope that as many people as possible can see Pope Benedict XVI.

Each diocese in England and Wales has appointed a local co-ordinator as the key channel for passing on information on how people can attend the beatification, and the other public Mass events that will take place during Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the UK. It is hoped that parish representatives will be pilgrims for their congregation, representing them on the day.

Approximately 65,000 people are expected at the Mass at Cofton Park while the open air Mass at Bellahouston Park in Scotland on Sept 16 will accommodated over 100,000.
