Age, not scandal, cited in bishops resignation

Pope Benedict XVI has accepted the resignations of two more Irish bishops, and cites their retirement age  as the reason why.

Bishop Joseph Duffy and Auxiliary Bishop Francis Lagan offered their resignations last year after passing the church’s retirement age of 75. The Vatican’s acceptance announced Thursday referred briefly to its retirement rules.
